To benefit best for customer and business, a concept for an additional navigation item is to be created.
I designed a HOT category with Trending and Featured these 2 sub-category to promote items are being bided most and introduce highly valuable items which deserves more publication and exposure.

My role

UX designer to brainstorm for new concepts

Context

In the auction app, a new 4th tab is expected to be added.
What attractive things could there be to take up a position in the precious space of bottom Navbar?

  • What key information this page would like to convey?
  • Why these featured contents are included in the tab's page?
  • How would it look like?

Requirement

The auction webshop site would want to have a new app version to aquire more attention and business through mobile users.

With its basic style and some features set-up, it was my task to create a new page/tab for the bottom navigation bar.

Thinking process

It was set out to explore what are the good options to convey to users, I have developed a few concepts thought some wireframes.

Concept 1

Concept 2

In this case, the business benefit I believe is the key point of developing concepts.

Thus, the concepts with social page and team follow/subscribe features were not selected.

The main focus would be emphasizing on the most popular items to bring up the auction price; as well as promoting none-conventional but good items, in order to get new reach and interests.

Concepts into prototype

I had designed an featured page with 2 tabs so it can hold two directions for concepts. And on the two tabs concepts, A/B testing could be conducted in the future.

Auction app with a "HOT" navbar item

With this design, the initial questions were answered:

  • What key information this page would like to convey?
  • Why these featured contents are included in the tab's page?
  • How would it look like?
  • Key information on this page is what is trending at this moment
  • These content can drive up the sales/auction price, and reveal competition so to bring more excitement and engagement from users
  • It looks clean and clear about what is trending by 2 categories: "Trending items" and "Trending teams"
